Age Lex Luthor
In the Silver Age, a whole lot of DC characters looked just like Superman
(including Manhunter from Mars, Lex Luthor and Brainiac). I thought I'd
capitalize on this idea by using the Mego Superman as my own prototype.
So I took a Supes and carved his hair away.. Then I sculpted a bald head
and obsessively sanded the epoxy putty smooth and perfect. After casting
this head, I altered the chin, cheekbones and nose, just a bit. While I
like the Thor headsculpt for bald characters, I'm always bothered by the
scale of the head. It's just a bit too big. And I liked using the Superman
as a base because it appears to me that Mego also used the Superman head
as a base for sculpting some of the other DC characters (Aquaman and Tarzan).
